ZBrush is a very difficult program to crack into, and version history vs the instructional software is super important. Ensure that you are working with the version of ZBrush that the book is for, otherwise you may find yourself hitting a couple of snags frequently. The book is very wordy and technical though it is written for beginners. I haven't really found a better publication for learning ZBrush thus far. This will definitely teach you how to use the program, but just be prepared for a steap learning curve if you are unfamiliar with it.

This book does effectively introduce Zbrush. However, I felt that the book gives equal time to features that a novice like myself should not touch or even need until later. Not every Zbrush menu item is equally important. I got bored looking at advanced features, and skipped parts that I had to review later. I resorted to an internet search to learn the Remesh tool.Yes, this is a good book, but ... the core of what you need to know and use on a regular basis is scattered a bit throughout the book. Too scattered. You can easily get bored and lost trying to find a specific feature in whatever advanced example the author has hidden it in. Zbrush is really ... overall ... not that hard. Hope that helps.Bottom line, yes, the book is good, but you will need the Pixologic "Introducing Zbrush" guide off the internet, and time with a few tutorial sites as well.Maybe what I really need was "Zbrush for Dummies", but now I am good. more or less.

Zbrush is a very complicated yet sickeningly simple program to use. However that's a double edged sword, this book breaks it down so quickly. The first time I had opened Zbrush prior to reading this book I was stuck and never even entered Sculpt mode, however 40 pages into this book I was able to Rotate, Scale, and Sculpt in just under an hour. I can't say enough about how great this book is. I have learned more from this book single handedly than any user tutorial on the internet or books that I'v purchased. My end goal was to make a movie, I spent years learning 3ds Max only to turn around and use this book and easily pass my previous limitations in a single week.So botttom Line, you wanna learn Zbrush? Get this book. Start here THEN hit up Pixologics website.

I am new to ZBrush. Before I bought this book, I thought I could learn how to use ZBrush by these on line videos and documents. I was wrong. It took too much time to learn very little. So, I purchased this book. This IS the book for ZBrush beginners like me who do not know much about 3D programs. The instructions of each excise are very clear and simple. So far, I have not yet failed any excises I followed. Not like some other so-call "beginner's" books, it seems you follow every step the book tells you but you still fail the excise.I determine to read this book word by word and to finish every excise offered by the book. I am confident that I will learn a lot of ZBrush from this book.Thank you very much, Mr. Eric Keller!!!

The book is OK, and works through good examples, but it's too much of "click this, press this control key, move the mouse,..." and too little explanation of why things work that way. It does a great job working you, click by click, through the specific examples given, but it's certainly not a reference book - you can't flip to a chapter and figure out how to do something. In my case, I was particularly interested in models composed of different materials, composted together into a scene with a background image. It should be relatively simple to do, but I have to work through many examples before I can figure out from the book how to do it.

ZBrush is astoundingly powerful, and continues to get better. But its interface is a hash of components and menus and poorly chosen terms. This book will get you through that, to producing work and while understanding the interface. Crucial tips to being productive are laced all through the book, even in the introductory chapters.Note that there's another book, Introducing ZBrush 4. The titles are confusing, this is actually a newer book than Introducing ZBrush 4, this one covers ZBrush 4R3, the new stuff from R4 and R5 is easy to pick up with the base of what's in this book.

This book is great!!! I give it three exclamation marks- it may be the primer for ZBrush- I only say maybe because I had already purchased two other "beginner" books so I already had a knowledge base- but I do not think that is entirely necessary for this book. It takes you from start to project as fast as you want/are able to go. I highly recommend this book, thank you Eric Keller for writing this book and helping all of of novices be more confident about our "start".

I bought it in Kindle format so I can read it on my dual monitor while I sculpt on the other. Its a great resource to have at a glance. Great thing about these books in kindle format, is that you can do a quick word search for your topic in as about much time it takes to type the word. I highly recommend getting this book in kindle format and any other Graphic design books. This is my 2nd zbrush book in Kindle format, and I will be replacing my library with this format in the next few months as well as buying all my future Zbrush books in this fashion. If you are concerned about the companion DVD's that come with these books, The publisher gives you a link on the first few pages after the title page. listed with the ID numbers of the book.
