Richard A. Posner is Chief Judge of the U.S. Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals and a professor and the University of Chicago Law School. In addition to being one of the most cited judges in U.S. legal history and one of the founders of the Law and Economics school of legal theory, Judge Posner is also one of the fathers of modern antitrust theory.This book is somewhat dated, but this is primarily due to the fact that it has been so widely read (and its policies so widely adopted) by other American judges. Up until the late 1970s, U.S. antitrust law was characterized by the pursuit of two (sometimes conflicting) goals: protecting consumers from monopolies and price fixing, and protecting "small dealers and worthy men" from larger competitors. Posner's book and a similar volume by Judge Robert Bork (The Antitrust Paradox) laid the theoretical groundwork for a seminal shift in antitrust thinking--one focusing primarily on consumer welfare.In Antitrust Economics, Posner describes in easy-to-understand terms why monopolies are bad from an economic point of view, and the shape of current antitrust law. He then lays out why some types of economic behavior that up until then had been considered anticompetitive (mergers between competitors, some types of exclusive supplier arrangements) can actually be pro-competitive or, at the least, pro-consumer. For example, while retail behemoths such as WalMart or mergers like that between Daimler-Benz and Chrysler may be devastating to smaller competitors, they may benefit consumers by generating economies of scale and lower prices.Regardless of whether one agrees with Posner's theories or the economic concentration in many industries that followed the adoption of his ideas, "Antitrust Economics" is essential reading if one wants to understand how we got to where we are and the theory behind modern antitrust law.

This book is really a page Turner I stayed up all night I couldn't put it down so many lies so many secrets how much you twisted them all together so well this book deserves 10 Stars I would recommend this book to everyone they will not be disappointed great job and I will be looking into some of your other books to see if they are as good as this one was

This book hit home. A lot of bad marriage triggers for sure... everything except the murdering part I can relate to. And high five to Mama. Some editing/grammar issues can possibly throw readers off. If you can get past that it's a good read.

Listen!!!!! This book was everything! Dakota got exactly what he deserved only it would have been better if he'd actually been killed as well as Chanel, she got off easy and Jerome was not worth a damn. Yaya deserved so much better than her rotten husband although she wasn't innocent she was a faithful wife.

Wow... This book has me speechless. At first I felt had for Chevey but in the end I realized that she's in a better place than with Kenny. Everyone needs a mother in law like Yaya had. She knew Dakota was no good due to his father's actions. Hopefully these 76 months will help Dakota appreciate his family.Great Job B.M.

Wow, the lies people tell will have you in the craziest situations. This book was just as crazy-good as I imagined it to be. I had a love hate relationship with Dakota, lol. I had a feeling things would get messy with the twins, but the way everything played out was just crazy. Very twisted and entertaining read. Loved it!

I didn't know where, I was going. I was on a rollercoaster ride, just when I thought I had it figured out, bam!!!! I was wrong!! This book was so good!!!!!!!

This is a great book for younger readers. It will be interesting to see how much it registers with today's youth.

I thought that this would be an interesting book to read since it is the same story told from the viewpoint of two different teenagers with their parts written by two different award-winning authors. The two narrators are Jay, an all-American white football player, and Haroon, an Afghani-American kid who is on the school's knowledge quiz team. Without even reading a summary of the book, it's easy to figure out that the book is going to be a story about racial prejudices that will end with some sort of understanding between two culturally and religiously different people.The dialog between the characters was very convincing. It took me back to my high school years when what people did and said are so important but often so petty. The cafeteria and school yard are full of various cliques of people who isolate themselves from others that are different from them. Specifically, in this novel, the place in the schoolyard where the Muslim students hang out is called "Brown Town". There's, of course, the jock who thinks he's so cool making up degrading names and jokes for people in the other groups. And, of course, there are the kids that go along with him because they don't feel like they have a choice.There were some interesting, adventurous parts in this novel like when the football players all run up to the roof during a lockdown and when they run around town decorating people's lawns and houses with toilet paper, eggs, and vegetables. However, there were also some parts of the book that fell short of my expectations. For example, there was an episode that happened in class with a character named Hadi who seemed to come out of nowhere and supposedly did something that the teacher was going to contact the police about. Unfortunately, even though I read the preceding pages multiple times, I wasn't clear about what happened. We also never learn what becomes of the terrorist who is picked up by the police at the beginning of the story beyond the fact that he went to jail. His character just sort of disappears halfway through the story. Also, Haroon himself is a weaker character than I would have liked to have seen in this book. It would have been nice to have learned more about his culture in order for young American readers to have a better understanding of a culture that they often misunderstand. In the end, as easily predicted, Jay and Haroon become friends, but there's really no connection between them before that would bond them together. The resolution of the book is very weak. Nearly everything is resolved almost magically as the story ends and the story just sort of fizzles out.Despite its weaknesses, I think this would be a good book to make students think about the personal side of learning to understand people from other cultures. It's a good source for making students think about what they say and do to others who are different than them. Unfortunately, the teens that should read this book and learn from it are probably not the teens who are going to pick it up to read it unless a teacher forces it upon the entire class.

In today's world, we never know when our lives are going to change at the drop of a hat. However, most of us don't expect for our very existences to be questioned, and especially not those of us who live fairly normal lives in typical small towns. But when an Islamic terrorist plot is uncovered in just such a place, two high school boys find their lives turned upside down and their values questioned, and they both must make life-altering choices as to how they are going to handle themselves.Haroon is a Muslim who is studying for a chance to be on the school's Reach for the Top academic team, but his life undergoes a terrifying shift when he is mistakenly taken out of his classroom as part of the terrorist plot that is uncovered. Even though his identity is secured fairly quickly, Haroon finds that life's going to be different; others look at him differently based on his religion and the color of his skin, things he'd never before thought much about. Haroon tries to keep things as normal as possible, but it's difficult when his twin sister Zana decides that her way of dealing with Muslim prejudice is to don the veiled abaya that makes her even more identifiable.Jay is a star football player in his first year at the local high school; he's a good student who is pleased to find himself accepted as part of the in crowd. His whole life is focused on football until the team captain begins to let his prejudices against those different from him show; Jay finds himself swept up into an incident that quickly grows out of control. What Jay decides to do to rectify the situation reveals his own character.Told in chapters that alternate between Jay's and Haroon's first-person points of view, this is an exceptional novel that speaks directly to today's headlines. Haroon and his family face prejudice simply because of their religion, and Jay and his family have to decide if their church beliefs allow them to display their own prejudices. The fact that the boys' lives don't really intersect gives the book a realistic feel, and the author does not shy away from the hard words or facts that most people are unwilling to face. Rarely has a book made me think so much or wonder so deeply about what makes us human. The book doesn't stray into the "happy ever after" domain and it's a very believable situation that many of us may face (or perhaps already do). I would be gratified to see this book as required curriculum in high schools across our country. Well-written and well told, it's a must-read. Highly, highly recommended. Read this book.

It was the “Amazon connection” that led me to this book. And it is absolutely a marvelous find. America being what it is… a most litigious society… how many of us have not been there? My brother, my daughter, and myself, all in quite separate matters, have entered the nightmarish Kafkaesque world of the “legal process.” Enough to provide some empathic resonance with this novel by “anonymous,” which is set in the area around Santa Monica, California. Why “anonymous”? In part, the novel is about being sued for “defamation” for writing a factual blog about the legal process. “Free speech”? It is such an abstract concept when confronted with the double barrel shotgun of two attorneys, one of whom won the “Litigate of the Year” award in Los Angeles, and chats up the judge after golf, at the country club. Just friendly chat, of course, nothing “ex parte.” “Anonymous” dedicates this book to all “civil litigants,” who have “been there.”The central characters are Andi Brooks and Lance Johnson on the one side, and their one-time lawyer, Ken Tinnerman, on the other. Johnson has a brief stint as a football player in the NFL, before injury forced him out, and into the “high tech” field. Andi is his wife; they have two children. As so often happens, particularly in the startup world of “high tech,” there is an employment dispute. The couple hire Tinnerman. The legal bills mount, always accompanied by the refrain: “complex legal issues.” Disputes mount also, and while a bill is being contested, a “Motion for Summary Judgment” goes uncontested. Malpractice? Certainly Brooks/Johnson think so. Andi Johnson did not consciously decide to emulate the tactics of a good general, i.e., why fight on the battlefield the enemy selects? Rather, viscerally, she simply decided to “vent” about her experience and started a blog on the legal experience. It had been in existence for a while, when another “disgruntled client” of Tinnerman’s sends him an email: “Why don’t you ‘Google’ your name?” The blog is in Position #1. Tinnerman is both mortified and terrified: “for all the world to see.”Aside from the core “legal drama,” there are character studies and character interactions worthy of Balzac. How does one deal with a rebellious teenager? How does one deal with your still judgmental religious extended family when you have had a child “out of wedlock”? And how much “solace” can be found in a seedy bar in Venice Beach? And, of course, the marital interactions under the stress of the on-going litigation.“Pro Se.” Five scarlet letters draped around Andi Brooks’ neck. Does an American citizen have any rights if a lawyer is not present? In terms of legal rights, dollops more are available if you have murdered someone. Andi does the research, writes some solid briefs, that the judge does not even bother to read, due to those scarlet letters and that pleasant après-golf country club conversation.In terms of resonance, I was on an identical wavelength: “Brad made arguments about upholding the integrity of the profession and such, but it fell on deaf ears. Everyone knew it was a fraternity that should not be challenged.” “The idea that her outcome was predisposed simply because she wasn’t represented by an attorney was preposterous. What about the merits of her case? Did they mean nothing? Of course not, justice would prevail… the courts uphold the rights of the people. Not the lawyers.” “They were in for a rude awaking.” “DENIED was nearly impossible to comprehend.” And yes, “We shouldn’t be second class citizens to lawyers.” “It’s crazy. How can he (the judge) make decisions in this case, which is entirely about a blog, without reading the blog?” “Because he doesn’t have to read the blog, he just does whatever Mr. Mandani and Tinnerman tell him to do.” Oh, the terrible authenticity of these quotes, some of which have been identical to ones I have experienced.‘Tis a pity, that. “Anonymous” is a “Pro Se” squared, in the legal world, and now in the publishing world. “Everyone knew it was a fraternity that should not be challenged,” redux. “Tinnerman’s Bar” brought to mind two other great “pro se” authors: Ethan Cooper and Perry Ulander. Cooper has written a number of incisive, and at times, laugh out loud funny books on the corporate world, including “In Control.” Ulander wrote a classic account of the Vietnam War, entitled “Walking Point,” that encompassed “the Magic Poncho Liner,” and so much more.“Anonymous,” whose “veil” should not be penetrated for another defamation suit, which would be filed, “en banc,” by the legal profession, has written a great book that should be read by anyone who has had a brush with the law. Even when, as it often the case, they have done absolutely nothing wrong, and even much right in their lives. Overall, 6-stars.

A good basic illustration of various stitches, and nice as a reference when combined with online videos that demonstrate the stitches. I remove stars because Page 19 of Kindle version of eludes to a 'final project' of crocheting a hat. This left me scratching my head as there are no projects included in this book, much less a 'final' project. It's almost as though this is only a portion of the original publication. If the editor simply removed that reference, it wouldn't have left the expectation that a project might be provided at the end of the guide.

This is just what i was looking for..easier to see pics than on you tube..great for beginner like myself...hard to get a perfect book first time out somethings but this one fits my use and needs perfect...pictures are clear and easy to see along with instructions....this will get me going...

If I had my choice i would give it a o. It is miss leading. I paid for a book that just showed stitches an hold to make a chain. It show nothing g how to put the stitches or chain together.

Crocheting was actually one of my frustrations because my mom and my gran used to make some on their spare time. They even thought me how but I can't really follow what they were saying. When I came across this book I have seen some hope that I can still give it another shot. And I did. Thanks to this amazing guide I can now really crochet!

I thought this was well done. It's a always good to have some frame of basics tohave for quick reference.

Bought this for my wife who has been struggling to learn to crochet. She’s watched some YouTube videos, but this book seemed to help more than those. The author includes some history of the craft as well as illustrations of how to hold the needles and yarn which were helpful for a newbie. The text also goes through basic steps such as creating a slip knot and the various stitches used while crocheting. All of these sections included clear illustrations on the techniques discussed which were a huge help.

There's a lot of crappy crochet books in the kindle store. This isn't one of those books. It's pretty obvious ms. moore put a lot of effort into this work. if you're truly a beginner than i think this book is worth owning.
