The first thing I have to say is content wise this volume goes into so much more detail then the anime. That's not all that strange this entire book was covered in the anime in only 2 episodes and it would be impossible for them to cover the whole book 100%. The entire first half of the Novel was almost nothing but new content, and it was good. For all of you wondering what actually happens in a Denatus (meeting of the gods), your answers are right in this book. The same is true for all previous volumes compared to the anime, however reading this volume felt like I was experiencing the whole story like never before. As a side note the full spread of Hephaistos, and Hestia was a nice little bonus.

Quite honestly, I couldn't put this away after I started reading it. I started on the first book, and now I'm just waiting for the 6th to release, and even then I'll probably read it nonstop. It's just something about the writing that draws me in, that keeps me enraptured. I had watched the anime before reading this, and thought it was alright. But when I started the novel, I saw just how many things had to be left out of the anime, how many couldn't get through the episode limits. There aren't any breaking details, but even every minute detail builds the world even more than thr visual depiction of it.

I love the storyline, though the entire thing needs to be edited thoroughly. I saw countless grammatical mistakes, tense switches, and even spelling errors.However, if these don’t bother a reader - or even if they do - I will still recommend this series! It’s a wonderful storyline, and I will continue to read it because I want to know what happens to Bell in the next book!

This history gets even better each volume, in this book there are a lot of facts that were omitted in the anime but that I think that are very important and interesting, such as the Denatus meeting events. And regarding to its style of writing, at least for me has been really easy to understand and grasp the plot, even though English is not my mother language. It's highly recommended to anyone who wants to go deeper in this history!

Great Book been reading since Vol.1 and it has been a roller coaster of great story and characters.

With the last chapters I was confused. Why go back to the time before and not just include that in the regular story? Then the last chapter y not use the prologue of the first book? Little short on the regular book but still enjoyable.

It's not as long as the other books. This one is kind of like a short arc that introduces another character into the team. We don't get the same amount of action, but we get an introduction and backstory of Welf Crozzo. Still a good read.

I'm a sucker for underdog stories where the main character progresses quickly. Story line is intriguing, but the market has been saturated with "MMORPG" story elements that others may not find an interest in the story.

We keep between two and three dozen chickens on our little "farmette". I have both this cook book and The Good Egg: More than 200 Fresh Approaches from Breakfast to Dessert. While I like this book by Michel Roux, I have gotten more use from 'The Good Egg'. I have owned both books for over a year.Here's what's better in Eggs by Michel Roux:--It is a nicer quality book: Bound and beautiful color photos. The Good Egg is paperback.--More sophisticated cooking techniques.Here's why I like 'The Good Egg' better:--Most importantly: 'The Good Egg' has more to choose from for everyday cooking.--There are more recipes in 'The Good Egg'.--I like her bread pudding and frittata recipes.--There is a lot of information presented about eggs. As an owner of a lot of chickens, which produce a lot of eggs, this information has been very worthwhile. I pass along recipes to our egg buyers and I also recommend 'The Good Egg' to the egg-eaters that I know.It has been very interesting for me to see--then try--different techniques for producing specific well-known dishes (for instance omelets). But, to tell the truth, I still make my omelets per the instructions I read in an older food magazine article.And if you are a young and inexperienced cook you will like Eggs: Fresh, Simple Recipes for Frittatas, Omelets, Scrambles & More. It is very basic, but has very nice recipes and info.And if you are looking for instructions for a true Spanish tortilla, take a look at The New Spanish Table. A true Spanish tortilla is not the easiest dish to master, but it is (of course this is my opinion) a wonderful thing to create, present and eat. It is my all-time favorite egg dish.

As a big fan of Michel Roux's Sauces, and sick of thumbing through generalist cookbooks looking for the definitive Hollandaise recipe or the exact timing for mollet eggs, I was very happy to see this great chef tackle this fundamental topic. The book has exceeded every expectation. I hoped it would cover the basics: frying, poaching, boiling, etc. It does that in great detail, clearly and accessibly. But it also presents many classic recipes that feature eggs: a very rich and custardy [and easy] cherry clafoutis, a sort of savory-herbed french toast, an outrageously delicious carbonara sauce, mousses, curds, meringues... 299 pages of flawless, rewarding recipes. As with Sauces, I am impressed not just by the depth and accuracy of the contect, but by the outstanding graphic design and photography.Next time you want to make somebody really happy without spending much time or money, try the Spanish Tortilla with Chorizo. I've been making it for my kids for breakfast and they love it, but it is equally well-received with wine and candles. With a little more effort, make the fresh egg noodles. They are silky, rich, and redolent of olive oil, ready for the simplest sauce [or a manly Bolognese], the basis for a memorable but simple supper.If you master a couple dozen egg recipes you'll always have something to fall back on. You may even come to see eggs as main-course material.Highly recommended!

As a card carrying "foodie" and egg lover, I couldn't resist getting this book.The recipes are brief, with few ingredients. Roux is French and his interpretation of egg cooking is obviously derived from French cooking. Serving sizes are small, but made up for by rich sauces and meat accompaniments. If you don't like cream and/or butter, this book is not for you.The recipes are very much dependent on technique, and therefore are deceptively simple. A beginning cook might therefore find some of the recipes somewhat frustrating.Well illustrated, the book covers everything from appetizers, main courses, and deserts, including ice creams/custards.If you're beyond the "beginner" stage of home cooking, and enjoy eggs and "rich" French cooking, I recommend this book.

I remember watching the first 3 Iron Chef America shows where they pitted famous US based chefs against the Japanese chefs that starred in the original show in Japan. In one of them Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto was competing against Wolfgang Puck and the secret ingredient was... eggs! Puck, having been trained in French cooking, had a huge advantage and won the contest hands-down over the extremely skilled, but over-matched (at least when it came to eggs) Morimoto. When I saw this book by one of my favorite authors, French chef Michel Roux, it reminded me of Puck's mastery of the egg and I couldn't wait to get it and use it.I like that Chef Roux gives some basic techniques for each category, such as the proper method for making omelets, souffles, frittatas, crepes, pasta, custards and mousses as well as poached, baked, boiled, scrambled and fried eggs. The recipes are a mix of classic and more modern takes on the use of eggs. However, one should note that the French prefer their eggs less cooked than do many Americans. Fortunately for those folks, Chef Roux gives alternative cooking times for many of the recipes. There are also tips of selecting, storing and serving eggs, as well as general egg-safety.The photography, by the famous British food photographer Martin Brigdale, is beyond reproach and includes both step-by-step photos as well as "glamor shots" of the finished recipes. I would like to have an enlarged copy of his Eggs Benedict photo framed and hung on my wall as it is a classic.Although I have made over a dozen of the dishes in this cookbook (and loved all of them) the book is not as in-depth as I would have liked. The recipes tend to stick to European traditions and tastes and could have been spiced up a little by adding ingredients and recipes from other parts of the globe. Still, it is a great introduction to eggs and would make a superb wedding gift. I am going to look at some other titles that might take this wonderful ingredient to the next level. I give the book 4 1/2 stars, rounded up to 5.

Bought this book as a gift for my niece, who is 6. I’m so glad I read it before wrapping it. There’s a whole page about thinking about what it’s like to drown. I found it really disturbing. Ruined an otherwise cute story about friendship. Didn’t gift it.

This book is for our grandson, and one of many by William Steig that we've bought. There is no more engaging story than this one, and I've read it countless times to hundreds of children over the years at the library.The drama is there, the beautiful language is there, and the picture of true friendship was never painted in a more touching way.

The story and illustrations of this children's book are absolutely lovely. But parents of young children be aware, the words are many on each page and they are big and advanced (on one page alone: "leisurely," "exchanging," "developed," "admiration," "delicacy," "quivering daintiness," "gemlike radiance," "grandeur," and "abounding friendliness" - phew!) and concepts - like death. I love exposing my child to these big words but it can get tiring when at every other word they stop to ask what it means - I wonder how much of the story he truly understands. I also found myself choked up at the end (spoiler alert) when the two friends, after a near death situation, part to never see each other again. My little kid had many, many big questions about death and dying and being helpless - not an ideal conversation right before bed. This book covers some big life stuff...but it is a beautiful book with a lasting story that goes deep.

Fun story...I've read it many times to my young audience.I love the graphics and the meaning of the little book...Thank you for stories like this by authors who did have funwith their talent.

Even a little child can make a difference!This is one of the most empowering concepts for a young child to grasp. It is the message at the heart of this story.When the whale saves a mouse drowning at sea, we are happy to see a creature so big, helping one so little. But later, when the mouse is able to return the favor by saving the beached whale, we cheer him on!Steig's prose is rich and draws you into the story. He gives us a phosphorescent sea, an immense starry sky, and a mouse's quivering daintiness. Artfully done as well, are his presentation of some very grown up concepts: having ambitions in life, whether we go to heaven when we die, and having to move on and say goodbye to a dear friend.My son and I enthusiastically recommend this book!

Heard it quoted in a non-fiction book about brain science, but didn't find it super inspiring.Kind of an awkward story of how very different people can help each other.Art work is so so.

I love this book, and feel that William Steig is one of the most underrated and insightful children's authors. I have asked many people who have children that I know whether they have read any of his books, and the usual answer I receive is "no". What literature they have been missing out on! My son really enjoys this book, and it is one of the first books with a substantial amount of text on each page that I have been able to convince him to sit still to hear (he's almost three).The story of a mouse and whale who find solace in a most unlikely friendship is charming and very applicable to human relationships. I think this book can teach children that friendship can be found in a people who are not necessarily like ourselves...and that these friendships are often some of the most important and profound in our lives. Hopefully, children will take away from this book the message that not everyone is the same, and that so much can be valued and gained from finding friends in those who are different from all the rest.

This was our son's favorite bedtime book when he was four years old. He's over forty now but none of us have forgotten it. So when it came time to donate a book to our favorite non-profit that ships books to the rural Philippines, (ruralkids.org) this was at the top of the pile we sent. The story is charming and the illustrations are enchanting. Your and your little ones will love it.

My wife has about 20 small quartz "style" watches that all cost less than $25 each and that she wears only with a certain outfit or a certain type of clothing. Several of the batteries had died and more than a few of the bands were broken. She asked if I could take her watches to the jewelry store and get them fixed, but they charge $30 just for a battery change. So, I decided to look into fixing them myself. I ordered a simple watch repair book and eventually was able to replace all of the dead batteries and replace the bands. That learning process motivated me to learn more about how watches work, particularly mechanical watches. I own two nice automatic (mechanical) watches, a Rolex Submariner and a Seiko MarineMaster 300m and have to spend several hundred dollars every 3 to 5 years to have them serviced. So part of my motivation was just to see if I could learn how to take apart their movements and then clean and oil them. I decided to order this book by Henry Fried so that I could learn more about mechanical watch movements and how they are repaired and oiled. The book arrived just fine about 3 days later and not only are basic repair and oiling of mechanical movements covered but the book goes into great detail about a wide array of detailed repair operations. The book also covers how to calibrate the time on a mechanical movement in detail. Some other reviewers complain that many of the pictures are from decades ago or that the book is not updated. However, mechanical movements have not really changed that much in the last fifty years and any modern reader will easily be able to learn all major (and most minor) repair processes from this book. Thanks to this book, I got started on a cheap $15 Chinese mechanical watch as my first victim. (Always practice the first month or so on something crappy) Once I had learned how to lube and calibrate it, I moved up to my trusty Seiko SKX007. After moving up the learning curve slowly, I was eventually able to take apart and remove the movement from one of my nicer watches. I cleaned and oiled the movement in my MarineMaster 300m and will soon do the same for my Sub. Not only do I find the work strangely rewarding but this book has already paid for itself several times over. I would easily recommend this work to others interested in working on their own watches. Five stars!

Very useful for someone just starting out, I'm learning a lot as I read through this. All the descriptions and methods are completely relevant today. The illustrations are hand drawn and a little crude, a modern treatise on watchmaking would include high res photos, but this book should be purchased and read for what it says in words, not so much what it shows in pictures. A good addition to your horological library.

Love this book, it takes many books to learn watch repair on your own this book is a great start. As soon as I flipped through it l learned how to tighten watch hands. Not covered in any other book I have. Suddenly that stockpile of old watch hands has become more useful. Plan to purchase the newest version but you can't go wrong with this as a starter.

This book is GREAT to start with. I found the infomration in it very practical, tho probably not as good as hands on courses in watch repair, it still gives me some understanding that if i wanted to, i can dive into each part deeper. ie: it gives a good rundown on oiling procedures, but i had to look up additional reference to my particular watch movement to get a better understanding.

Way above my pay grade! This book is not for the hobbyist! This book is for someone who has more time to devote to watch repair, than just a few hours a week.

This is a great book for watchmaking students (and watchmakers that may need reference a specific repair). We use it in school and it is very easy to read and work from.I wouldn't recommend it for a watch enthusiast unless you have knowledge of watchmaking.

This book was published for the first time in 1949: the narrative and graphics are perhaps relevant for that "age" but substandard for 2014. If you are trying to navigate for the first time in the world of "understanding" and repairing watches this is not a motivating start point. I would say that it's "too technical" and the possibilities to understand are very dimmed in part because of the poor graphics (b&w), the technical jargon used from beginning to end, etc. It is like you for the first time want to learn math and in your first lesson the teacher starts with integral and derivative calculus. Even for seasoned watchmakers I guess exist books with better designed lessons and graphics.

I love the idea of this book, and I did learn a lot of interesting trivia about how the states' borders were formed. The problem is with the book structure... it's alphabetical by state, which means you'll be reading the same trivia twice for each border, for example, the border between Connecticut and Massachusetts is discussed in both states' chapters. This gets old after a while. And also, the reason for some borders (e.g. the 36°30' latitude that came out of the Missouri Compromise (slavery allowed below, not above) affects several states, so you read about it over and over again. I can see why organizing the book was challenging, but I wonder if there was a better / less tedious way.If you love geography and US history, you'll still get a lot out of this book.

This is an excellent reference source. It strength is also its weakness, because each state's story must stand on its own there is a great deal of overlapping, repetitious information between it and the states that border it. Short of making the story one long narrative of the nation as a whole it would be hard to avoid this rehashing. It would also leave you having to dig to find the story of your state among all the others.On the other hand, I found the reuse of trite phrase throughout the book tedious after a while. The test of a good writer is to make old stories interesting and fresh. Mark Stein might have done a better job there.As usual with Kindle the illustrations are limited to viewing page size so enlarging can be a problem (because of the nature of the maps less so in this book that others I've read) and the illustrations were not linked to references in the text. If the text mentioned Fig. 13 you had to flip forward to find figure 13 - and then flip back to pick up where you were. Sigh!One last point I liked is that if I want to learn more about, say, Colorado's eastern border you can go to the Table of Contents and select Kansas. Quick and easy!

I found this interesting and informative, but was frustrated by the frequent repetitions and illogical organization. Yes, I know this was a bestseller and a television series, but there is room for improvement. The alphabetic-by-state-name organization is the least useful possible; instead, start with an alphabetical listing of state names ( for those who must have it), linked to chapters organized by state (or colony) creation date, o by geography, sweeping generally from east to west. This way, the discussions of intrastate boundaries would only have to be given one time,

This book provides some fascinating insight into the history that literally shaped our country. Even if you don't read the entire book, which I recommend you do, it is a great reference book if you are interested in particular states. Some state borders were set for obvious and logical reasons, such as rivers, etc. However, some borders defy logic until you see the politics and debates going on at the time. Just think of the task of carving the Louisiana Purchase territory into states. Or, settling claims of the colonies when the states were formed. Most interesting and highly recommended.

This is a good reference work. It tells how each of the states became formed and what geographic and political factors were involved. For example, Utah lost the northeast corner of the state to Wyoming which became a complete rectangle as a result: two factors were involved: Geographically there is an imposing mountain range cutting across the northeast corner of what could have been Utah that would have made transportation, administration and logistic support of the trans-mountain section of the potential Utah difficult. Politically, many senior congressmen and senators were prejudiced against the Mormon leaders of Utah and happily jumped at the chance to take territory away from Utah. While the book is episodic, telling as it does 50 stories about the states of the county, Mr. Stein tells the stories interestingly and will obvious academic research. It is a good addition to any library of American history.

Well, I am american, but I loved this book ! I read it aloud to my husband and we had maps, and google and all sorts of stuff as "aids". The maps in the book are very very good, but we liked it so much we supplemented the maps with more maps !I had always looked at a map of the US and thought it was a straight line here, a squiggly river line there. Not so ! The book is logically laid out. The maps are excellent. We howled over the drunken surveyors (well, there were no roads and the terrain can get pretty tough..). We loved the true story of Ellis Island. A lot of mysteries over the formation of the original 13 colonies was solved.All the states (maybe with the exception of Wyoming) had border disputes when it came time to nail down exactly what real estate was going to make up a state. Yes, sometimes it got bloody, but by and large each state-to-be worked out its differences peacefully with their neighbors. I think that says a lot of good things about how the nascent USA citizens worked well with each other. Sure beats some of the wars and invasions that have gone on in Europe for centuries.Highly recommend this book. I haven't seen the history channel series based on this book. But this book should be a school textbook. It's that informative . Loved it.

You would think this would be about the most boring book possible, but it's just the opposite. I first borrowed a copy at the library, but liked it so much that I bought a used hardback edition (the condition of which exceeded my expectations). If you enjoy reading American history, you'll like this one. I never really thought too much about the states' borders, but when you read this, you realize that every line has a reason. And too often that reason involved conflict and bloodshed. Those innocuous little lines have a dark history.

A somewhat disappointing book. The picures are not very helpful, and there are no actual radiographs. The ultrasound pictures are completely useless. I recommend spending more money and getting a better book (not Thrall, which is even worse).
