My grandson shares books with me that he reads in school and then we discuss them. This is really a bonding thing with us. This book is filled with suspense. I really admired the young people who risked their lives for liberty

Having read and enjoyed Margi Preus' "Heart of a Samurai," I was excited when this book came out. As a child, I had read "Snow Treasure," so I had heard before of the Norwegian resistance during WWII. As an adult, I found this book more exciting than "Snow Treasure," although I really liked that book when I read it as a 6th grader. In "Shadow on the Mountain," I especially liked the historical photos, the timeline, and the suggestions for further reading included at the back of the book. I bought this book for my 12-year-old grandson, but I just had to read it first before I gave it to him. His mother doesn't like crudeness, but there is only one instance of bathroom humor. And a friend of the main character is killed.

Does the book have an anti-Trump bias? Sure. But then again, the truth often has an anti-Trump bias. I don't think the book would have been written much differently had Trump never run for president. The proposed move to the fall killed the league and it was Trump who led that charge. So therefore, Trump killed the league. Overall, very well written, easy to follow and fun to read.

I am a sports fan, old enough to remember the USFL from my mid-late teens. It probably would’ve been a lot easier to promote a book about “How We Should’ve Known The Current President Is A Moron By How He Single-Handedly Ruined The USFL” here in 2018.Pearlman didn’t write that book. You can’t tell the story of the USFL without talking about Trump. But I thought he was in the book in the right proportion. He’s in there exactly as much as he needs to be to tell the story of “The Crazy Rise and Crazier Demise of the USFL,” and no more.The book is fantastic. An enormously fun read.

What started as an insterting read quickly turned into an anti-Trump bashing. Anyone who remembers the USFL, should agree that we may be still watching it if not for Trump. The fake court ramblings of former Commish Pete Rozell really did it for me. A waste of time and money to read..Wannt a good book on the subject,The United States Football League, 1982-1986 by Paul Reeths and the hard to find The $1 League: The Rise And Fall Of The USFL by Jim Byrne..I'm not a Trump fan by the way.

This was a terrific read, explaining in detail the three year rise and fall of the USFL. The league began as the gang that couldn’t shoot straight, but, to their credit, the owners righted the ship and were destined for success, exploiting the notion that Americans would embrace first rate football played during the spring.Then enter Donald Trump, who had been rejected for ownership in the NFL. As an end-around, he purchased the NJ Generals, convinced the other owners to go head to head with the NFL playing fall football, and sued the NFL for non-competitive practices, leaking to the press all the while information that would bolster his position. The league won the suit, was awarded $1 in damages, and soon after disbanded. Another one of Trump’s business successes!It’s a thoroughly enjoyable read that I recommend with enthusiasm.

I found out about this book by following Jeff on Twitter.I'm glad I did.I had forgotten how revolutionary the USFL was and all of the characters that were involved in its rise...and fall.This book has a tale of intrigue around Donald Trump and the lies he needed to sell to get the league to commit to moving to the fall.It has the story of David Dixon and how he mapped out an idea that likely would still be going if it hadn't been overtaken by ego and greed.As someone that remembers the signing of Herschel Walker by the Generals, it is also amazing how many stars played in the USFL including Jim Kelly, Steve Young, and Reggie White.This is a book that seems perfect for the younger Generation X kids that were at their awe-eyed peak when the USFL was playing.And, if you are a fan of the 80s, this book will take you back to that time.

I have carried it around with me in my backpack during three weeks of intercontinental travels, and the binding has held up well.The book tells the story of how humans got into space and covers the historical aspects of Space 1.0 (up through the last Space Shuttle mission).The book proposes all the reasons that it is both feasible and desirable for a Space 2.0 and talks through both governmental and private current space ventures.The book describes in logical and well provenanced terms what the rationale for getting into and staying in space are from protection of the Earth through gaining resources through exquisite manufacturing and ultimately as a way of exploring the unknown.Everywhere in the book there are absolutely gorgeous full four color pictures.This book is fun to read as well as informative. (Imagine my surprise and delight when the passenger next to me took the book to read when I dozed off on my flight. How many books does that happen to?)I could not be happier with either the presentation or the content.Well done Rod Pyle!

I've known Rod Pyle for while now, and I knew he was a good writer, I didn't know he was such a comprehensive researcher. I have skimmed through this book for a quick read to provide a review. Based on my first pass, I can state without a doubt that this book is amazing, it is easy to read, provides some fantastic artwork, and historical photography too. What I like the most about this book are the factoids based on interviews from professionals and business owners in the aerospace industry and research details about the myriad of various areas which took me on a ride from private spaceflight, through NASA (some of which I was already familiar) and the new entrepreneurial disrupters of the present and a view into what the future of spaceflight might see. What was also insightful was the historical significance and context which gave me a complete picture. Now that I've skimmed through I'm ready for a slow read to take it all in with hot tea and relax and fully absorb all the deep work Rod Pyle put into Space 2.0. What is really wonderful is how well written this book is, which is refreshing. Don't miss this book as it is great to read but it also is a great desktop reference for spaceflight. If you have teens that are interested in aerospace this is a fantastic book for an overall deep dive into spaceflight, many questions can be answered by reading this book and some that have never been asked.
