I don't understand the pull of Scotland when it comes to time travel. Perhaps it's simply a homage to Outlander. Having said that, I was interested in the fact that the year mentioned was 1390 since I know a little bit about the time period. Wouldn't have mattered if Fiona was catapulted back into ANY century. There is nothing historical about this book. I don't read a lot of historical romances and I don't expect them to be very realistic. Real men aren't generally all a'quiver with desire at the mere sight of the ravishingly beautiful heroine and vice versa. Never mind. i understand the perimeters of the genre. What is UNFORGIVABLE is the TOTAL lack of research. Not even a google search. Where do I begin? Kilts were NOT invented until the sixteenth century. While wheeled transportation could be called carriages, they had a myriad of other names such as chariots. However, they were extremely uncomfortable and would not have been used for a journey of a few miles. Portraits were not a commonplace--I believe Richard II was the first to have his portrait painted--and they did NOT have drawing rooms, long halls, studies, lots of rooms and mansions, as if this were a Regency. Unforgivable. This is the most basic research. Furthermore, our hero's Scottish burr comes and goes at the oddest moments. Sometimes he's speaking the so-called King's English and other times he's awash in kens and whatever else seems to pass for the author's version of Scottish dialect.I once read a very famous historical romance novelist who started her story with lyrics from a Moody Blues song. To me, that is mocking the reader. I am sure most readers don't pick up these books for a history lesson but DO have enough respect for your reader to read a couple of articles about the time period and make copious use of Wikipedia. Readers deserve at least a flavor of the time period. Bottomline, if you don't like to do the most rudimentary research, stick to writing contemporary romance.
A great time travel story set in 1400’s Scotland. The characters are strong, believable and you find yourself routing them on in their adventures. A fun series, but each book can be a stand alone HEA. Once you start reading the series you won’t want to miss a single one!
A quick read. There isn't any groundbreaking writing going on, not going to lie. However I gave it a four star because I totally liked the main characters. And even though you expect romance from a romance novel, this one actually delivers. I found it romantic anyway!
I love Scottish Highlander stories, and this one is a time travel, too. This is the story ofLaird Eadan and Fiona. The plot is believable, the story moves well, and the characters are strong, decent, interesting men and women, even thevillains are well drawn. If you love Scotland, and medieval lovestories, or time travel this is a goodbook for you.
Well written time travel romance as far as grammar/spelling, etc. Feel-good romance, rather formulary. Bit disappointed, as book appeared to be well-researched, but then in 1390s there were no "carriages" as imagined in the book. Several other anachronisms that stand out if you read a lot of history. But overall, decent start to a series. Look forward to seeing if anything unique evolves in the 2nd book.
“Eadan's Vow - Highlander Fate Book One†by Stella Knight is a tale of what is might be like to magically time-travel to a fourteenth century Scottish castle...be discovered by a handsome Scottish Laird, Eadan Macleay ...and fall deeply in love ...this is the fate in one...Fiona Stewart an artist who is asked to assist Laird Maclean to prevent his unwanted betrothal. Needless to say the couple fall madly in love and have many adventures. While not particularly historically true to the period...this is definitely an exciting and engaging read...MUCH enjoyed and Highly Recommended.I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Loved this book! Couldn’t put it down! Fiona travels to Scotland to preform at a concert and is transported back in time after speaking with a strange old lady. She is rescued by Edan a highlander. He doesn’t believe she is from the future at first but the more time he spends with her the more he believes her and wants to help. It he’s also drawn to her and is falling in love with her. Fiona finds she is drawn to him and realizes he’s not the gruff Highlander she first thought he was. She realizes she is falling in love with him and isn’t she if she can leave him if she can find a way home.
Fast and easy read. I always enjoy the possibilities in a time travel and Scotland is a good place for them. Fiona finds herself in 1390 Scotland instead of the present. Eadam takes advantage of her arrival to delay an unwanted betrothal. Of course they fall in love and have to discover what the bad guys are up to and save the clan. Fun story, fast read although there were historical inaccuracies it was about the story so I didn’t worry too much about it but I did knock off a point because some of the errors were glaring. If you want a fun, fast read, and won’t get hung up on reality this is a great read.
